Just used one of these that I borrowed from a friend. It was -21 on the day we departed. We stayed in the BWCA three days in a large tent, cooking and sitting around this stove. It kept us toasty warm at night, as the camper allows for a perfect burn all night long.

To be sure, there are many other options out there if one is looking for a hot tent camp stove. There are some that are much lighter but those have to be assembled and disassembled. There are many are heavier but those require additional payment in sweat if you trek any distance. Most cost less than a Four Dog Ultra-Light I-DX Titanium tent stove. There is not, however, a stove on the market that is better built or designed for a lifetime of use than a Four Dog Ti stove. It is simply the best. I purchased mine new with a shelf on each side and as well as a baffle. While I have yet to be out in any sub-zero temperatures, I find that on my treks I use less wood but also experience increased performance. Part of that improvement is likely related to the longer firebox which allows me to use longer splits which means, of course, that I’m sawing and splitting logs less frequently. I think that the improved performance is primarily related to its thoughtful design. Don has incorporated a lifetime of trial and error improvement into each stove. The workmanship and welds are of exceptional high quality. The near airtight firebox, baffle and air intake design allow the stove to be more efficient and produce more heat than my prior lightweight Ti stove (by another manufacturer and which required assembly). The stove top and side shelves offer nice cooking and warming surfaces. In summary, others have described these stoves as a “work of art” that would provide a lifetime of performance. I wholeheartedly second that opinion.
