Stove Specifications:
5 Reasons to Get a Four Dog Steel Stove:
1. MORE EFFICIENT HEAT: True airtight door with a high temp gasket for a air tight seal makes for a superior stove! You also get a baffled fire box that makes the stove 20-30% more efficient then other stoves, by forcing flames to go around the baffle before exiting the firebox. This means more heat and comfort to you, and it keeps the heat in the fire box--not up the pipe!
All Four Dog stoves allow you to burn less wood, have more heat with less work
(Meaning: you have more time to relax and enjoy yourself on the trial).
2. SAFER: The airtight door allows complete control of your burn. Close the air intake, and the fire is out--no run away fires. Baffle makes the stove safer by forcing flame and sparks to go around the baffle instead of straight up the stove pipe. Reduces chances of hot sparks or embers getting sucked up the pipe causing a fire or burn holes in the tent.
3. GREAT FOR COOKING: The baffle creates a hot spot on top of stove for cooking or boiling water. Without the hot spot made by the baffle, most of the heat would go up the stove pipe, forcing the stove operator to run the stove much hotter--which results in burning more wood, making more work, overheating the tent and increasing cooking times.
4. DURABILITY : The Four Dog Steel Stove shell is 13 gauge steel, with reinforced top and door opening. Door is 10 gauge steel. This stove is meant to take heavy use for years to come, and is built "mule tough" through and through.

Posted by JT -- and this is my personal opinion on 13th Oct 2015
MY PURCHASE:
4 Dog DX model
water jacket
spark arrestor
5" vertical pipe
NERVOUS:
Delivery in time for hunt --just made it
Set up prior to hunt with limited time --no issues
PROs:
Everything fits into the stove for easy transport --even put it on one side of a mule
Baffle appeared to help with heat
Ease of use -- easy to put together and take down --fast in a wind storm
Handles make it easy to carry or move
Door is great--it seals
CONs:
I was in Utah at 11,000 feet hunting elk
Available pine was naturally wet due to weather --elevation and fuel are all contributors to the following, so don't think I'm blaming the company for all of my issues --but these are items to consider when procuring a stove
Spark arrestor plugged up and smoked my tent out after 3 burn days
Paint comes off easily when attaching jacket or shelf or sliding cast iron fry pan across the top --can respray with high temp paint every season
Pipe damper did NOT have a good fit, spring assembly was very poor--I would call this the weak link of the system -- and no this isn't my own opinion, I had several in my camp evaluate the pipe damper as a POS
Door damper holes are too small for this type of western hunting --took a while to get a good draw --had to leave stove door open most of the time, which leads to inefficiency
Tried calling and emailing owner with no return contact --probably building away in the shop, I get it, but no contact at all is not good enough for me
Save the comments or lectures on fuel and fire. I don't pack wood into the back country. I use available fuel in the forest. Is pine the best, no. Is wet fuel going to create soot/tar, etc, yep. Is the air thinner at 11k feet, yep.
FINAL DECISION THAT MATTERS:
Is any stove perfect for all hunters, nope. Will I order another Four Dog, Y-E-S. I am going to order one for a cook shack wall tent.
Why: ease of use, American Made, small business made, reasonable price to value, and I'm going to try like hell to burn the bottom out of mine to test Don's warranty --aside from some ash, there wasn't a mark on the bottom of the stove, so i won't hold my breath. BUT, I will order a spare pipe damper.

Overall good workmanship for a reasonable price and it gets to you when they say it will, or sooner. I received a 4 Dog steel DX and a 2 Dog steel DX last week for my 14X18 and 8X12 wall tents respectively. Only one issue with the two stoves: one leg bracket (2 Dog model) would not accept the leg, stove weld interference that got by quality control. Nothing a 10,000 rpm hand grinder couldn't fix in a minute. Leg went right in after the grinding. That's why we test things before using them. Had I headed to the hills with the stove in the box my first trip would have been a 3-legged 2-Dogger with a rock prosthetic for the 4th.
