Stove Specifications:
5 Reasons to Get a Four Dog Steel Stove:
1. MORE EFFICIENT HEAT: True airtight door with a high temp gasket for a air tight seal makes for a superior stove! You also get a baffled fire box that makes the stove 20-30% more efficient then other stoves, by forcing flames to go around the baffle before exiting the firebox. This means more heat and comfort to you, and it keeps the heat in the fire box--not up the pipe!
All Four Dog stoves allow you to burn less wood, have more heat with less work
(Meaning: you have more time to relax and enjoy yourself on the trial).
2. SAFER: The airtight door allows complete control of your burn. Close the air intake, and the fire is out--no run away fires. Baffle makes the stove safer by forcing flame and sparks to go around the baffle instead of straight up the stove pipe. Reduces chances of hot sparks or embers getting sucked up the pipe causing a fire or burn holes in the tent.
3. GREAT FOR COOKING: The baffle creates a hot spot on top of stove for cooking or boiling water. Without the hot spot made by the baffle, most of the heat would go up the stove pipe, forcing the stove operator to run the stove much hotter--which results in burning more wood, making more work, overheating the tent and increasing cooking times.
4. DURABILITY : The Four Dog Steel Stove shell is 13 gauge steel, with reinforced top and door opening. Door is 10 gauge steel. This stove is meant to take heavy use for years to come, and is built "mule tough" through and through.

So I'm not a typical canvas tent user. I don't set this thing up once or twice a year for a few days... I set it up in November (or when the snow starts to fly) and I take it down in the late spring (when it's warm enough to return to the deck). I have a 10x12 tent that is used daily, and so is the stove. I had a different stove from a different manufacturer before. It was fine, but pretty warped.
So I'm not a typical canvas tent user.
I donated the old stove to a cabin project and began shopping for the heir.
I settled on the Four Dog stove. I am very happy I did.
My other stove was not airtight (it never pretended to be). It did not have a baffle in the stove to regulate airflow (and prevent the fire and heat from going straight up the pipe).
Both of these features have been game-changers for me. First, the airtight... I seem to be burning much more efficiently now. I have to reload less often because I have a better burn, and that will be less $$ in firewood.
Next, the baffle. This ingenious addition does a couple things. First, it seems to keep more heat in the tent, and believe me, I like it very warm. I don't go to the trouble of putting up a cigar shack to sit out there in my winter clothes. I like warm and I'm not kidding. But it also keeps the top of the stove from going thru so many heat cycles that it warps. Now, I've only been using this for about a month, but so far the top is still perfectly flat, and that's amazing.
I wanted to make sure I put the stove through its paces prior to writing the review, but I can say as someone who burns it every single day, this thing is a champ. I'm very happy I upgraded!
